: Hello
: I was wondering if i could get some opinions. This has nothing to do with Project 4, but i need some serious opinions. I wanted to do CS when I was in HS b/c of course the money, but I also had a very good(and easy) hs programming teacher. So everyone tried to scare me out of CS when i came to UT, and i decided to go for it b/c i liked computers and i saw nothing else to do. So i took Seaman for 307, and almost made an 'a'. So i was like, well maybe i am really cut out for this. In CS 315, i had a lot of help from a friend of mine, but i think i learned a lot and got a B. CS 310 I had to take twice, but actually enjoyed learning it the second time around the right way. PHL 313K I enjoyed (b/c I had Dever) and actually made an A. CS 336 was a joke with Emerson, we overed hardly anything at all and almost made a B. So now im taking this class and feel completely lost. It seems im lost when it comes to C++ syntax and putting together these projects. I feel very overwhelmed and am beginning to think im not made for CS. I actually dont like coding at all, i actually hate it. But i love problem solving and the abstract concepts of CS.Basically, i wanna drop this class and switch to business. How feasible do you guys think this is, and is it a good idea. If I drop this class, id have a 3.24 gpa and a year of easy business school basics to bring it up to at most a 3.4 - 3.5. Could i get in the bschool with that? I just feel im so far into CS, ive wasted so much, but i dont think i wanna code like this, ever! I wanna make a lot of money, but i think business would be a lot easier and more worth the effort. What do yall think? Im ready to drop this damn class and this damn major! I cant even get an Internship anywhere. I just feel really lost and wanted some opinions.

Hey.
Here is my story and may be it'll help you to
make a decision:
I'v always loved Math. I liked problem solving,
I liked that feeling when you find the best and the
most efficient soultion. If not for money, I would
go to the Math department.
At first I was really bad in Math. I couldn't
solve any problem. I thought Math is something
terrible and not understandible at all. And
then my mom helped me a lot. I went
to a high school with extencive learning of
Math and Physics. And finally I came to the point
where I thought I knew everything in Math.
I could find an approach to any problem.
Why?
Experience...
There was no such problem in Math that I didn't
tackle before at least once.
I think if I wait a little bit more,
I will have the same feeling about CS.
It's always hard at the beginning. And yes,
we're at the very beginning.
If you decide to follow an easy way, would you feel
satisfied at the end? Would you feel that
you did everything you could to reach your goal?
Or would you think you gave up just because
you were too weak to proceed?

I do not want to abuse anybody, but here's
what i think about bussiness major:
I wanted to get a business foundations certificate.
I took MIS 311F last semester.
Before each lecture the womens restroom was flooded
with sororaty (however this word is spelled) girls.
They were all blonds, all with a fake tan, all with
blue eyes and all without a single thought in there
"mind".
They were putting make-up, fighting for the
better place in front of the mirror. They were
talking on the cell phones ("OH MY GOOOOOOOOOD!
MY BOYFRIEND IS GAAAAAAAAAY!!!!) etc.
And then they would enter the class room. Like an
army, marching to their seats.
They would seat in the class and
keep asking stupid questions like:
"Oh my GOOOOOOD, STANDARD DEVIATION, what is it?
Oh, I can't remember this formula. Could you
please give it to me on the exam? OH MY GOOOOD!!!"
I was sitting there and feeling I was waisitng
my time and money.
I didn't learn anything new in this class.
I think I even became more stupid because of dealing
with all those stupid people.
I got an "A" without any effort.
And I wouldn't ever take any business class again.

Again sorry if I've hurt somebodys feelings.

So my point is:
take one business class next semester. Look at the
people around you, look at all those "empty" faces
and make your decision.

Good luck.
