For any of you who had Downing for CS315, which I
think I can safely assume is just about everybody,
take a moment and do some mental comparing and
contrasting. That is, recall how absolutely smoothly
his class ran. Remember the hundreds of lines of
code he wrote on the blackboard every day? Remember
him fucking up once? Maybe once, but not many more.
It makes me sick to think how I took his class for
granted; I assumed that most CS professors at UT
would be just like him. Boy was I wrong. This Van
Wieren joker, although obviously an intelligent and
talented programmer, can't teach worth a damn. It
seems as though he's too busy making dumb jokes
and pointless anecdotes to ACTUALLY GIVE US SOME
FUCKING KNOWLEDGE. His methods and reasoning, without
fail, leave me and others completely in the dark,
only to struggle with the projects on our own, and
basically create them as we go along.
Get to the point, you say? Sure. Theres a few of em.
- Don't miss professor evaluation day. Make sure
you let the University know exactly what you think
of Van Wieren.
- Bitch at him when he's being evasive and unhelpful.
He's a teacher for God sake, and he's gettin paid
with YOUR tuition money.
- Scrutinize his grading system and project specs.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Good luck getting through this piece of shit class.
